Studio City Kitchen Remodeling Below the Cabinets

Studio City kitchen remodels that account for what lies under the cabinets: joists, subfloor, old pipes and drains, each finding named in the quote.

If the house has a raised floor, the work below the kitchen can matter more than the work above it. Joists notched for old pipes, a soft patch of subfloor near a past leak, or a beam that has sagged will change how the cabinets sit. A Studio City quote leaves room for these findings and says what each one would change.

What the floor can hide

Lifting a section of flooring shows the subfloor and the joists beneath. Dark stains and soft wood point to a leak that stopped long ago but left rot. Notches cut for a pipe can weaken a joist, and the fix is a sistered board or a steel plate sized by an engineer. A floor that dips needs shimming or leveling compound before the cabinets are set, or doors and drawers will drift out of line. Where a joist has to be repaired, that work is finished and covered by the subfloor before any box is delivered to the room.

Supply and drain lines

Older metal supply pipes may be corroded or tightly clamped, and cast iron drain lines can crack or be crusted inside. A camera or a pressure check shows which. If a line must be replaced, its new route may push the sink or dishwasher a little to one side, and the drawn layout is revised before cabinets are ordered. Finding this early keeps the order from changing after the boxes are built. A line that is simply left alone, but sits where a cabinet will cover it, gets an access plan so the next repair does not mean demolishing new work.
