Kitchen Remodeling in Valley Glen
Valley Glen is an inland valley area. Navon Home plans kitchen floors and drywall for dry spells and the odd storm, and LADBS reviews the permit.
Valley Glen is an inland valley area, and inland houses as a group swing between long dry stretches and the occasional hard storm. Wood floors, cabinet boxes and taped drywall all take on and give up moisture through those swings. In a kitchen, that movement shows first where the floor meets the cabinets and where a new wall opening meets old plaster or board, so we plan for it before picking a single finish.
Choosing a floor for dry spells and damp ones
Solid hardwood shrinks across its width as indoor air dries and swells back when it turns humid, which opens and closes gaps between boards. Engineered wood, built from a plywood base topped with a thin hardwood face, holds its size far better. Porcelain tile hardly moves with humidity, though it needs soft movement joints at the walls. Vinyl plank ignores moisture but grows and shrinks with heat, so a run in front of a sunny window gets a wider gap. Wood products acclimate in the house before install, the subfloor is read with a moisture meter, and every edge gap hides under base trim.
Keeping drywall seams quiet
Drywall cracks usually start at the top corners of a door or window, where the framing works hardest. When we open a kitchen wall, sheets are hung so no seam falls on those corners, and a full piece is notched around the opening. Joints get tape suited to their position, and each coat of compound cures fully before the next goes on. New studs and headers are kiln dried, which keeps them from shrinking after the wall is closed. Valley Glen lies inside the City of Los Angeles, so the permit and its inspections come from LADBS, with framing checked before any board goes up.
What we plan and build in Valley Glen
Every project here starts the same way: a measured layout, then the lines behind the walls, then finishes.
