Flooring, Drywall and Finishes, In the Right Order

Floors and walls are the last layers of a remodel and the first things you notice. We plan them with the kitchen so heights, transitions and clearances all work.

Floors under or around the cabinets

Some floors run under the cabinets and some stop at the toe kick. The choice affects the finished height for the dishwasher and range, and it changes the cost. We decide it with the kitchen layout so appliances slide in and out.

Subfloor and transitions

A flat subfloor is what makes a floor last. We check it, grind or fill to level and plan transitions where wood meets tile or carpet. When floors run through several rooms, the levels are set across the whole run.

Drywall and paint

New walls, patched openings, ceilings opened for wiring and the edges around new windows all get taped, textured to match and painted. Drywall closes only after rough inspections pass.
