Gutter placement on a Pasadena ADU comes before the kitchen layout. A shed roof sheds to one gutter line, so the downspouts end up on a single side, away from the neighbor and the main house. That choice fixes which wall can carry the hood duct and the plumbing vent, and the galley follows from it. Drainage across the yard is drawn at the same sitting.

Gutters, downspouts and the yard

Water off a pitched roof collects in a gutter whose size we work out from the roof area, then drops through downspouts into closed pipe or onto splash pads aimed at planting or the street, never at either foundation. If the yard has little fall, a dry well or a dispersion trench can hold runoff on site, and the City of Pasadena reviews that with the drainage notes. On a low-slope design, a single-ply membrane is laid to falls so nothing ponds near the edge, with a scupper and leader head at the low corner.

Ember-ready details where mapped

Whether your parcel falls on Pasadena's mapped fire hazard areas is a lookup we do at the start, since parts of the city are mapped that way, which can bring ember-resistance rules to a lot. If it does, the roof covering is Class A, vents get fine metal mesh, eaves are enclosed and the siding is noncombustible. Gutters can take a cover so leaves do not collect in them. Windows get tempered glass in at least one pane. The kitchen hood's exterior cap gets a damper and screen that close tight.
