The first look at a West Hills stucco wall often happens indoors. Under the sink, behind the range and inside the cabinet that backs onto the exterior wall, a stain or a soft spot shows moisture that the plaster outside hides. Only then do we step out and trace it to a crack, a vent or a leak, and decide what needs to be opened up.

Inside before outside

Cabinet backs and baseboards tell the story first. A dark ring on the underside of a counter, a swollen toe kick or a musty smell points to water coming through the wall. We press a moisture meter against the drywall on the interior face, then follow the reading outdoors to the spot where it begins. That might be a hose bib, a dryer vent or a window head. Tracing the path from inside saves cutting stucco in places that turn out to be dry.

Then the outside wall

With the likely spot found, we look at it from the yard. A hairline that lines up with a window corner, a rust stain below a light fixture or paint lifting beside a downspout each suggest a different cause. We cut a small opening there to see the paper, lath and sheathing. If everything behind it is dry and firm, the fix is a patch. If not, the scope grows to cover what the opening shows, and the photos back it up.
