Solid brass or bronze hardware on the entry door of a Ventura ADU keeps turning smoothly where damp, salty air reaches the lot, since neither metal rusts the way plated steel does. The same reasoning carries into the kitchen, with a stainless sink and faucet body, coated drawer slides, and a range hood whose outdoor cap is aluminum or stainless. Small parts like these decide whether a compact home keeps working without fuss.
Fasteners and flashing outside
Behind the siding, corrosion starts at the nails, screws and straps long before it shows on the surface. For siding nails, hold-down bolts and deck hangers we call for stainless steel or a hot-dip galvanized coating, with flashing in materials that will not react with them. Window frames go in fiberglass or vinyl, with stainless hinges and locks. The heat pump's outdoor unit, in a coated cabinet, rests on a raised pad, and the electrical disconnect beside it is rated for outdoor use. Each item is named on the drawings so the choice holds through construction.
Coastal zone and the city permit
The city's building department checks the unit for code compliance and against state ADU law. A Ventura parcel can fall inside the state coastal zone, and a lot there may need coastal sign-off, through a permit or an exemption, ahead of building plan check. We check your parcel at the outset, so the steps ahead are known before drawing starts. Each plan check comment gets a written answer from our office before the revised set goes back to the city.

Power runs underground in conduit to a subpanel, supplied by the main panel when the load figures permit, or by a separate meter.
