Kitchen Remodeling in Cerritos

The kitchen makes more heat than any room in a house. Navon Home plans Cerritos kitchens around the hood, supply air and the insulation in an opened wall.

In any house on an inland lot, Cerritos included, the kitchen is the room that makes the most heat of its own. The range, the oven and the dishwasher all give it off, and a hot, sunny day adds more through an outside wall and its window. We start the plan there: how the hood carries cooking heat away, where the cooling supply air enters, and how an exterior wall opened by demolition gets insulated before the cabinets go back.

Insulation while the wall is open

When demolition exposes an outside kitchen wall, the empty stud bays can be reached without cutting into finished drywall. We fill them with batts or blown insulation, seal around the pipes, wires and the hood duct where they pass through, and add blocking for the upper cabinets before the board goes on. A new window in that wall is set with flashing tape at the sill and head. California energy rules cover altered walls and new glazing, so the plans list the insulation and window ratings the reviewer checks.

Cooking heat and supply air

A hood matched to the cooktop and ducted outdoors pulls heat and grease out right above the burners, and a damper at the cap keeps hot outside air from leaking in while the fan rests. A supply register that blows across the range can push smoke past the hood, so it is moved or redirected while the ceiling is open. The building office that serves Cerritos reviews the plans and inspects the rough work before the walls close. Kitchens in Lakewood, Hacienda Heights and Long Beach get the same heat plan.
