Kitchen Remodeling in Alhambra
Will an island fit an Alhambra kitchen, or is a peninsula the better shape? Navon Home measures the walkways first, then plans power, drains and finishes.
Will an island fit in an Alhambra kitchen, or would a peninsula serve the room better? That question is worth answering before anyone looks at counters or tile. The answer comes from a tape measure: the width between the cabinet runs, where the doors and windows fall and whether the plan is for one cook or two. Once the shape is chosen, the plumbing, power and ventilation are drawn to match, and the finishes are picked last.
Island, peninsula or galley
An island needs open floor on every side. A walkway of about 42 inches suits a single cook, and a kitchen where two people work together does better with a wider path. If the room cannot give that clearance all the way around, a peninsula tied to one wall keeps the extra counter and seating while leaving a clear route to the back door. In a narrow room, a galley with tall pantry units on one side can hold more than either. We sketch each option over the measured plan so the tradeoffs are visible.
What each shape asks of the house
A sink or cooktop placed in an island needs a drain, a vent and power brought up through the floor. Over a raised floor, that run goes through the crawlspace. Over a slab, the concrete is cut and patched. A peninsula against a wall can often borrow lines already in place. Outlets along any counter are spaced to code, and a hood over an island has to reach the roof through the ceiling. The City of Alhambra building department reviews the drawings, and its inspector sees the rough work before drywall closes it in.
What we plan and build in Alhambra
Every project here starts the same way: a measured layout, then the lines behind the walls, then finishes.
