San Pedro Kitchen Remodeling Around the Hood and Microwave
San Pedro kitchen remodels that settle where the microwave goes once a ducted hood takes the wall above the range, with circuits and cabinets drawn to match.
Where does the microwave go once a proper hood takes the space above the range? In a San Pedro kitchen, that answer shapes the whole cabinet layout. A drawer unit can sit low in an island or a base run, or a built-in model can share a tall cabinet with a wall oven. Each spot needs power of its own, and the drawing shows where before anything is ordered.
Why the hood gets the wall
A microwave hung over the range often moves less air than a dedicated hood, and its fan sits close to the heat and grease of the cooktop. Handing that wall to a ducted hood lets the plan size the fan to the burners and send its duct straight outdoors. In damp air near the water, the wall cap at the end of that run is specified in stainless or coated aluminum, whose damper flap drops closed once the fan is off. The duct itself is smooth metal, kept short with few turns so the fan can work as rated.
Placing the microwave and its circuit
A drawer model fits into a base cabinet just under the counter, so it opens toward the cook and nothing hot is lifted over a burner. A built-in unit can stack above a wall oven in a tall cabinet, with a trim kit sized from the maker's spec sheet. Either one generally wants a dedicated circuit, and the outlet position comes from the installation guide. Countertop receptacles get ground-fault protection, spaced so no point along the counter sits more than 24 inches from one. The panel is opened to confirm room for the new breakers.
Kitchen Remodeling in San Pedro: questions to settle first
Either can, and moving the range carries the hood question along with it. A new range wall needs gas or a heavy circuit plus a duct path outdoors that dodges joists where it can. A sink on another wall brings its drain, vent and supply lines. We draw the current room and the changed one, each with its own price.
Every appliance by model number, including where the microwave lives, the rated airflow of the hood and its duct route, a scaled layout with cabinet sizes, the circuit and outlet plan, and lighting. Finishes still open each get a named allowance so the quote covers the whole room.
For San Pedro, the permit desk is LADBS, the City of Los Angeles building department. New circuits for a microwave or wall oven, gas changes, a ducted hood, moved drains and framing all go through it. Cabinet doors or a counter replaced in the same spot may be exempt, and LADBS makes that call. Should the lot fall inside the coastal zone, a separate coastal review could apply.
