In a Rowland Heights house, Whole Home Remodeling becomes the first job once the kitchen plan reaches past its own walls. Shifting a doorway, joining the kitchen to a family room or rerouting a hallway changes framing, flooring and lighting in rooms the cabinets never touch. When that happens we scope the whole floor plan at the start, so the kitchen and the rooms around it are drawn, priced and built as one sequence.

When the kitchen pulls in other rooms

A kitchen that grows into the dining area takes a wall with it, and the attic tells us whether that wall carries roof or ceiling loads. If it does, a beam sized by an engineer replaces it, with posts carried down to proper footings. The floor then has to run unbroken from the old kitchen into the joined room, so one flooring is chosen for both spaces together. Ceiling lights, switches and outlets move to suit the new plan, and the drywall patches left behind are taped, textured and painted to match the rest of the house.

Trade order and the county permit

Framing comes first, then rough plumbing, gas and wiring, then inspection while the studs are still bare. Insulation and drywall follow, flooring goes down through the connected rooms, and cabinets are set on top of it. Counters are templated once the boxes are fixed in place. Rowland Heights is an unincorporated community, so Los Angeles County reviews the plans and sends its inspectors at each rough stage. Houses in Walnut, Diamond Bar and Whittier are planned in the same sequence, with the drawings filed at whichever office covers the address.
